Jasmine Ashoori — Instructor

Jasmine Ashoori is a Communication Studies graduate student at California State University, Northridge, where she also teaches two sections of the Fundamentals of Public Speaking. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles.  Jasmine has spent time working with both grammar and middle school age students as a teacher and private tutor. In 2016, she developed curriculum for the Fundamentals of Public Speaking course at Bright Academy in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Jasmine loves to work with students because she wants to be a part of the “lightbulb” moment that occurs when inspiration strikes or an idea is had.  Her teaching philosophy is foregrounded in critical thinking, individual fulfillment, and the cultivation of curiosities and life-long learning skills. It is her desire to foster the type of learning atmosphere conducive to student growth and success, both in their studies and personal development.  She feels the classroom should always be a safe place that allows students to take risks, challenge conventional thought, and express their voices, while developing original and innovative forms of thinking.

In addition to her teaching experience, Jasmine is also an editorial writer, with contributions to publications such as Flaunt Magazine and The Culture Trip.  Jasmine, a self-described “black tea aficionado”, loves to both read and write, and enjoys hiking, spending time with family and friends, and indulging her sweet tooth with frozen yogurt.
